But then the frame will get thicker and heavier as your political affiliations change or as the different municipal, provincial and federal elections come along. Or for the US folks the county, state and federal elections. After a few years there won't be room for the rider!
The heat gun works great as a first line of attack. As mentioned if you dial it down or hold it far enough back that it's not so hot that your other hand can stand then there's no risk at all to the paint.
And patience, you gotta have patience. A long slow lighter pull with a little warmth added will do a far better job than a harder pull that just rips the paper. An inch a minute or only slightly faster is about right. With a little patience like that you may find that a lot of them will pull off whole and leave no residue behind.
