i'd go with one of those felts or the lemond - the pista, for one, is fixed and can't be "de-converted" to a road bike.

you can definitely turn most road bikes into a fixed gear - see http://bikeroots.com for some basic steps in that direction.

although if you go that route i suggest buying a used road bike, and using that for the fixed gear/beater bike.
