I'm debating whether to get an attorney for my bike accident that I had 8 months ago. A car turned in front of me and I broke my collarbone and sprained my wrist, some road rash, had a concussion and my bike was wrecked.

I'm not sure of the ballpark figure for the damages. The driver was cited by the cops for improper turn and failing to yield. For what it's worth, the driver only had mininum insurance (here in California it's only $15000), so I also put in a claim to my underinsured carrier. I lost a week and half at work (sitting on the couch trying not to move because of the pain!). I had pain for about 8 weeks and only got to ride my bike after 4 months. My shoulder still hurts, more like a constant very low level uncomfortable feeling. The fracture in my collarbone healed okay, but it still doesn't "feel right". It was a distal break, which my ortho doc said will have a tendency to feel different, even though I have the same strength as before. My medical expenses are about $6,000.00 so far, with most paid by more insurance, for now. I understand that they have subrogation rights against the guy that hit me.

Anyone have any insight into what would be fair? Do these kinds of cases settle for $10,000? $100,000??
