I ride at night almost every night. Usually go out about 9 and go for an hour or two. Its nice because you can tell when cars are approaching a lot better. The key is to be well-lit. I'll second the superflash -- the more the better. They can be seen for quite a distance.

In my neck of the woods, the biggest concern I have is a deer or other animal running into the road -- a couple near misses.
