Bicycle Messengering

Hey.

I just got fired from my job and I need a job to keep me going until I find something else, so I thought of bike messengering. I might even love it enough to keep it until old age prevents me from doing it.

I was wondering about the companies and their application process. Also, what can I do to ensure I am "good enough" to do the job? 8 hours of continuous riding over varied terrain? Map study? Cardio? Etc...

Also, one important thing that might prohibit me from having a bike messenger job... being hearing impaired. Do all companies work via two way radios? Could I buy a special phone/pager/whatever that relies solely on text messages?

Thanks!

Jason
