how long are you riding? what terrain are you riding? did you fit the bike by feel, by sight, or by measurement? did you spend a bunch of time setting it up? do you ride with much weight on the saddle or the pedals?
NYC roads aren't great(ha!) but if your technique is right and the bike is fitted to you there's NO reason that saddle should hurt when riding for less than a few hours on even lightly padded shorts.
