I'm sure you are aware that 26 x 1 1/4" isn't the same as 26 X 1.25" so far as bicycle tires are concerned.
Huh? I didn't know that 1 1/4 didn't equal 1.25. Please explain.
For the VAST majority of old 26" tires in the USA, there are only two types to consider, really:
- Schwinn
- Everything Else
Schwinn tires fit Schwinn 26" rims and nothing else and visa versa.
Other than that, I found that it was nearly impossible to get a modern mountain bike tire onto an old 26 X 1 3/8 rim. No amount of swearing or soap would make it work. However, I am with RetroGrouch that a 1 3/8" tire should fit onto a 1.25" rim
on old bikes (over 20+ years old).
What exactly seems to be the problem?
