Incredible Weekend

Pretty much every Memorial Day weekend I try to use the break to whip my sorry butt into some kind of shape even if I haven't been riding all that much by doing a little 3 or 4 day tour.

The weather in New England could not have been more cooperative. Threw some gear in a rack pack and a front bag and managed to roll out of town at 3pm on Friday for a quick 45 miles to Southeastern Mass to my sisters. A tailwind and crystal clear skies and about 65 degrees made for the perfect ride. Stayed overnight there and Saturday morning my brother-in-law, a hardcore mountain biker and sometimes roadie, and I set out for a gorgeous 70 mile meandering loop to Bourne, MA at the bottom of Cape Cod. Extraordinarily beautiful riding through small towns and farms.

Went for the lobster dinner on the Cape and up early on Sunday for the pancake breakfast at a local eatery and up the canal path and continued on for a phenomenal 80 miles up the Cape to Provincetown. Caught the 3 pm fast ferry back to Boston. Rode home to Newton, got presentable and rode to New Ginza in Watertown for a sushi feast. Looped around the neighborhood to round out to an even 100.

This morning up and out to The Town Diner for another big breakfast and then a grueling 45 miles into a fierce headwind back to my bro-in-laws in Southeastern MA. Had the prerequisite Memorial Day burger on the barbie and I headed back with the most phenomenal tailwind ever. 45 miles home in a total of 2:15 with a stop for a Gatorade and a Chunky. The wind was directly behind me and it was steady at around 20 mph with gusts easily to 30. It's a ride with rolling hills and twists and turns and it felt like I was on a motorcycle!

Obviously- it's all about the food.

300 miles of perfect riding in a nice little weekend. Here's a pic of us rolling down a country lane in Rehoboth MA
