Thats the fg curse. It should be quieter than a derailleur multi-gear setup, but its not (all the time). Some of my cheaper ss and fg bikes are silent as the grave. But my best FG bike with perfect chainline and very high quality 1/8" drivetrain is and always has been loud as hell. (No, my chain is not too tight.) Assuming good chainline, proper chain tension, and quality unworn components, there's not much you can do about it. Using some thick-ass lube helps temporarily, but that also gunks up your DT pretty bad.
