It's a Trek 1.2, BTW, which is not necessarily a commuter and I don't use it as one. Just wanted to comment on WSD. If she's tall, she might be more comfortable on a man's bike.

Chalk me up as another woman who didn't find the WSD did it for me -- and I expected it to. I'm 5' 5" with the classic proportions that should make the WSD a no-brainer. I compared WSD and regular versions of the Trek 7.3FX and Trek 7.5FX, and ended up really preferring the 7.5FX without the WSD. "It's just how you like to ride," said the LBS dude, and I think he's right -- another woman with the same size and proportions might love the WSD. So...she's really gotta try them out.
I'm only 5'4", and I still prefer the ride of a regular bike over WSD. I've tried WSDs in the past but prefer a bike I can beat the crap out of!
