help needed thinking of converting to single speed
Hi i'm a neewbie to the biking world so please forgive me if some of my questions seem silly.
i bought an old 10 speed raleigh carlton about 4 weeks ago for £50.00 simply as a means of getting to work but since then i completly got into biking. the bike needs a bit of work but the frame is lovely, i was wanting to convert it over to single speed or maybe fixed depending on what is going to be easiest and most practical as i never seem to use more than one gear. they tend to slip a lot as well. the rear drop outs are aslmost horizontal so this should be a plus. i'm wanting to replace the wheels as they're a bit knackered, the front probably needs a rebuild.
so my questions! (sorry)
could anyone recomend a new wheel set for about £100.00, i've been told the reer hub needs to a specific type to fix a single gear on. I'm still not understanding this cassett free weel thing, i've been told my rear wheel might bw quite tricky to convert because of the hub on the back, the wheels knacked so i may as well just get a new one a solve this problem.
also would i need a new chain wheel and cranks or could i use my current one?
If you could think of anything else i may have missed i would be grateful.
Again sorry if i'm asking daft question i'm at the very bottom of the learning curve!
Cheers
Nick
