Naturally, you'll want to go through the bike with a fine-toothed comb just to make sure everything's done OK.

Check to see if the headset is tight enough, or not overly tight. Check all the bolts are properly tensioned and greased before learning two years from now they weren't greased and now they're seized. Check to make sure the cranks were mounted properly on the bottom bracket spindle and aren't spinning off-kilter.
Go through all the spokes and check to make sure the nipples are properly tightened.
Check to make sure that the cog and lockring are properly secured on the hub.

There's nothing model-specific I can think of with regards to the Surly Steamroller. Just common sense.
