Generally, a scrap yard doesn't take every bit of the car down to melt. They remove and sell parts that are in working order to keep other old cars on the road. Matter of fact, that's how I did my one and only radiator replacement. (never ever ever let your little brother do car repair for you when you can do it yourself... at least he paid for the radiator when he broke it )
