I have two left turns like this on my ride, both with lights. If the lights are red, I will pull to the front and right of the cars in line (into the gore point for one light, to the curb for the other). When the light changes, I head pretty much straight across the intersection while the cars angle across. By the time I get across and up to the point where the turning cars are actually integrating into the road, the cars have usually past and I'm pulling alone in the rear. I've never gotten any grief from any driver for this kind of riding. It's safer for me and faster for the cars, since we're not mixing it up.
