I've gotta disagree here. My previous bike was a 21 lb steel Jamis Quest (w/pedals). My current bike is 16. It is absolutely easier to get up steep hills on the lighter bike. The new bike seems to be at a weight level that it barely feels like I have anything to push up a hill. I just pedal.
On the flats the advantage is not so high. But a 40 mile ride is knocked out easier with the new bike too.
