I do the exact same thing, and I believe it's the best solution if you subscribe to game theory. Nobody catches up to me for 60-70m on the road I'm turning onto if I sprint from the start, so it'd be hard to argue that I'm slowing anybody down. If I get in line at say, spot #4 out of 10 cars, cars 5-10 are going to be pissed at waiting for sure.
Why would they be pissed at waiting if you aren't slowing anyone down? If you can out-accelerate cars when you're at the front and the light turns green, why wouldn't you be able to keep up with the car in front of you when it goes if you're not in front?
