I can't imagine $5+ gas won't get more Americans to seriously consider and adopt the bicycle as a transportation alternative. If a sizable portion of the US started riding their bikes for commuting and local trips it would simultaneously mitigate the three biggest crises facing the USA today: health issues related to lack of fitness/excess weight and dependence on foreign oil and global warming.

Nah.... F that action, only dorks ride bicycles.
