Multiple Top Tube Pads?

Hey everyone. Came across this guy's bike on velospace while google-ing a search for gr-9 pedals using powergrips... anyways, as you guys can see, this guy's using three top tube pads to cover his bike. Whether for asthetic reasons or to protect the frame, I like the look of it on this bike. I don't think I'd ever do it to one of my bikes, for fear of being ridiculed at, but was wondering what you guys think.

Note: I do use a top tube pad to protect my Nishiki from further cosmetic damage as I lock and unlock it often throughout the day. One pad seems sufficient and is very convenient. In my opinion a top tube pad is a nice addition to a bike for both purpose and looks.
