When I used to ride the canal I carried water bottles just for the geese. If you spray them with watever liquid you put in it, they will usually get out your way and leave you alone. Also, when you get good at it you don't even have to slow down.

I wish I had a pic of my buddy with a goose pulling his shirt as he sped down the path. It was all I could do to not crash into the water as I laughed at him.
