that's a good question. for me it's a little bit easier to squeeze the brakes than if I was on hoods. Compare the angle of the brake levers to those on drop bars to see what I mean. Other than that, I don't really find much difference from the hood positions on drop bars.

If I was preparing for a race, I'd actually lower my bars so that they would be below the hoods position but higher than the drops position. I'm using my bike for my 19 mile commute to work, so I like a slightly more upright position and I have aero bars for when I want to go fast. I mainly use them because I built my bike to try out a triathlon.

If you like the way they look, that is also a valid reason to tinker with your bike and you don't need any more justification than that.
