Hilly...It was definitely not downhill! Going West from Houston to Austin through the Texas Hill County. Specifically through Buscher and Bastrop State Park...serious hills!
Anyway...yes we did many weekend training rides and I hit and miss as much as I could during the week for several months. Last several weeks took off work a couple of hours early twice a week to train.
I did o.k. I think. Made day 1 (100 miles) in 6 hours 37 minutes (bike time). Second day (75+) including the State Parks in 5 hours +. My ride is a Klein Quantum Race.
It was tough through some of the hills but, rewarding when we would pass through small towns and see folks in wheel chairs with signs saying "thanks...you're riding for me". That's about all it took to keep me going.
Early in the year maybe but...thank God it wasn't mid summer when it would be over 100 degrees.
Planning to do 90 at the "Shiner Bash" in May and the annual famous "Hotter Than Hell" ride in August. It is billed as "100 miles in 100 degrees". I did the metric there last year in 104 degree temp.
Cheers
