A fine contribution there T-man. Fine indeed.
I am in agreement with you in that a well executed homemade pie with fresh ingredients, is almost always a winner. In a contest pitting such pies, be they apple, cherry, lemon meringue, key lime, blackberry, peach (or cherry peach, one of my personal favorites), custard, and any number of other flavors, it would be difficult (yet delightful) to pick a winner.
Take for instance a peach pie. Those cans of peach filling are terrible. Likewise for home-made peach pies that use a can of peaches in heavy syrup. But a peach pie made out of fresh peaches ... ah, delicious.
