Regarding the seatpost, my 753 Trek came to me with a 27.2 post. I was assured it would originally have been 27.4, but the post fits fine and doesn't slip, so I've continued to use it. I think the ears on the seatlug might be in a little bit, but I don't think it's a big deal. I have a 27.4 Super Record post for it, should I ever decide to work the seat lug ears back out. Whatever fits, fits. Other 753 frames have been known to take posts sized other than 27.4 or 26.8 - depends partly on how the seat tube has been reamed (though a 27.2 post fitting a seat tube built for 26.8 would be a stretch).
Nice bike.
Thanks. I have learned there are two types of 753 tubing sets, as is true with 531. Metric and Imperial. According to information I have found, 753 was originally only made in metric. Metric 753 would take either a 26.8 or 27.0 post. The diameters of the tubing on my bike correspond to metric 753.
