I read this shortly before I bought my first cannonball back in '86. It could've been wrong then or my memory could be off but, as I recall, cdale started off marketing camping goods and supplies for bicycle tourists and early in their corporate life they imported from Japan higher-end touring bikes. Those bikes were steel frames.

Anyways, the bike the OP refers to is aluminum that is certain.
