Touring Bike Wobble

I started loaded touring again on my 1973 Motobecane Grand Touring bike and was carrying about 40 pounds of gear. I slimmed that down eventually to 30 pounds.

I was really dismayed when I started out on my 900 mile trek to Cape Hatteras National Seashore from Connecticut and the bike wobbled. I was able to periodically stop the wobble by putting my knee against the side of the top tube, but that was a temporary fix.

I finally fixed the wobble by applying a bunch of plastic "zip strips", those thing you loop thru and back into itself and pull until it tightens up. I used quite a few of them all over the place. I also used ome very tight bungee cords. It seemed like if I got everything tightly against the bike or racks, that stopped the wobble.

I now have no wobble, but I have a lot of zip strips on my bike.
