In a moment of inattention today I darn near killed myself.
I was stopped at a stoplight and looked down for a moment...when I looked back up I caught the glint of the green light to my right. My brain said "Oh...Green light!" and I started across the street. As I approached the median, I noticed the cars coming from my right were not stopping or slowing. Realizing my mistake, I got onto the median and dismounted...walking my bike the rest of the way across when the light actually DID turn green.
Finished my commute to work and shook for about 30 minutes at my desk.

To all of us that ride, let's remember that losing focus or getting distracted can end us in an instant.
I was very VERY lucky today.
