Mixing components is not uncommon. I've been looking at mountain bikes, and the Epic Marathon has a SRAM X.0 setup, except for the the FD which is Shimano. Seemed strange to me, but apparently the SRAM FD's have issues. I'm not surprised, as I have some with mine on my Tarmac
