I've had a VERY bad experience with a homeless person.
He was a friend of a friend -- It just happened that alcohol took over his life. After hearing his story of losing his construction job and losing his apt, we took him in. We discussed the seriousness of him wanting to clean up his act. He was in such dire straits we just couldn't say no to him. We fed him, we clothed him and even started to buy him tools and a used pick up truck so he can work. In exchange he did some remodeling around the house. He did decent work.
My mom became ill with cancer and he didn't work much so he can tend to her. Long story short-- we found out that, when she was at her weakest moment, and actively dying, he ripped her off big time. Enough to buy a Mercedes Benz. Our family heirloom jewelry was missing too. As well as the ones she wore for many many years. She NEVER took those off.
He left the house the day after she died.... we saw him after only once....... in that Benz cruising around on the freeway with a big smile on his face, waving at us, as if to taunt us.
