I think, and I'm about as expert as anyone else here, that a hipster is a certain cultivation of a look, rather than a sincere joy in dressing a certain way (or listening to a certain kind of music, reading Proust, etc): it's the cultivation that matters, these things are placed into a certain context. If you moved to Williamsburg 10-15 years ago versus moving there now, etc.
