I have not raced with a USCF card since 1998 till about a few months ago and still rarely. BMX -- I've done it on and off but that's the ABA. So you could say I am still not a race roadie!

Why I like it, to commute and save gas!

I have given up on the notion that cycling will help you loose weight. Not eating a lot helped me loose weight. PCAD cycling Zen -- I do not know what kind of zen is that! Zen is just being not talke about.

For me cycling other than commuting or with the kids or social events is just a mental time stopping process that helps in one's self realization. For me it is like the 7 cakras (energy centers) in motion (2 wheels, 2 legs, the chainring, the chain itself and the the rear sprocket) moving in a seemingly definite destination which return backs to your root -- your home.
