Back on topic --

Bells might be nice, or maybe a secondary horn with a lighter tone. Our buses at work have a regular horn (which mostly only get used when switching to reverse) and a truck-like air horn for extra attention-grabbing power.

In the meantime, I've settled for a short beep or two being a friendly equivalent of "on your left" and longer honks being anger-driven.
Exactly! Cars need an "Excuse me" and a "HEY @#$!%*!"
