I was "side rear-ended" almost four years ago. I was riding to work when I was struck by a passing pick-up/stock trailer combo. The first impact was mirror to helmet followed by the fender over the trailer wheel catching me in the left hamstring, tearing away the part of the muscle and sciatic nerve and breaking the femur. I was airlifted to the local trauma center where I spent 2 1/2 weeks in an induced coma and a total of two months in hospital. I received 75 units of blood in the first 2 days and a total of 89 units during my stay. Took me almost two years to walk again(against the odds) and now walk with a cane. I ride a handcycle due to a lack of strength and range of motion in the damaged leg.
