I was "side rear-ended" almost four years ago. I was riding to work when I was struck by a passing pick-up/stock trailer combo. Sorry if this is a little trite, but did you sue? If this was a commercial rig I would think you could have cashed out, not that it could buy you a new leg. Sorry about your injuries.
Also, what people forget is that this stuff can still happen if you are in a car. My father was killed, while commuting, in his 2002 Honda Accord. He was rear ended by a car carrier.
