I found a double century training schedule on the internet and then I took the percentage difference between my distance (127) and theirs and then applied it to each of their daily mileages. Then I used the same percentage to figure out the foot gain I would need on each ride to match the mileage progression. I don't know if it's legal to do that, but that is what I did. Essentially that meant that every ride would up with at least 1000' of gain. I used Bikely to map out the routes and figure the total gain per ride and when I neared the biggest rides I did the mountains. I fell short of a few of my training goals, but not by much, though I always felt it wasn't quite enough. In fact, it probably wasn't. I could have used a few more weeks on the schedule and reached a bit higher peak, but who knows--I might have just fallen off. Oh, and I was religious about keeping my training schedule, even if it meant riding at 3 am to fit it into my work-kid schedule.
