You could switch pedals as Doc Who stated but to be honest I've seen a couple of speedplays and and Times break at the spindle as well (non-ti). If your close to the max weight limit and a real masher I might consider new pedals but if your not no reason to give up a nice set just because they need maintenance/TLC. If you have side to side play in the Quattros, a rebuild will shore that up. I had the same issue with my 4Ti Quattos. And yes the gold is anodization and it does wear off at the pedal body contact points (If there is no side to side play it could also be time for new cleats).
