I had essentially the same thing happen to me two years ago, but I didn't sustain the same level of injuries, just road rash. I found dealing with the person's insurance pretty straightforward, I got a new bike, my medical bills covered etc.. That part took a while, and when I had my dad's lawyer send them a request on official stationary, within a week they sent me my medical bill payments plus 2500 for not pursuing it any further. Wait 6 months before finalizing any settlement to make sure there is no lasting health problems from this.
