I can tell you this, I wouldn't use any rack that required me to depend on a bungee chord to secure the bike. I like my Thule roof rack because the bikes are locked onto it and the lock is fairly secure. We will go in for lunch or an errand without worrying about the bikes.
i agree i love my roof rack, plus i ski so honestly its the best option for me. i've used my friends trunk racks and i find them to be far less aesthetically appealing and they just don't seem to hold the bike nearly as securely as the roof rack i've got.

of course, i dont have a garage!

either way, i don't think you can go wrong. obviously if you have a truck i think the trunk racks will work better, but if you have a car i like the roof racks better.
