When my wife wanted to get a road bike I took her around to the shops and she test rode a bunch of bikes. I had one picked out that I thought she'd want (but I didn't tell her), she suprised me by deciding on a much racier bike. Don't worry about him not getting "enough" bike; he can always upgrade later.

BTW, if you started riding this year and you're already doing 70 mile rides you are doing very well. Don't expect your husband to be interested in doing as much riding as you're doing.
