This is one I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, I love the unique characteristics and sometimes subtle differences between various bikes. There are still a few more out there that I'd love to have in my collection. On the other hand, I feel that there's value in simplicity, and I don't feel I'm following the Buddhist teachings (the Buddha taught that suffering comes from desire. Or, if you don't follow the Buddha, Jesus taught that the way to heaven is to sell all you have, give the money to the poor, and follow him) I'm trying to follow when I've got more bikes than I need. There's a tension in my life between appreciating vintage bikes, and wanting to keep it simple.

That said, I've got 15 bikes in the stable, and there a few more out there in the world that I'd buy if and when I find them and I have the cash in hand. And lately, I've taken to buying bikes for Ms. Blue Order, especially when I find a matching "hers" version of one of my bikes. Every one of these bikes needs to be built up. Currently, I'm riding the mountain bike, a GT Karakoram that was hanging unused in a suburban garage in pristine condition for a decade or more, and which I bought for $50. Ms. Blue Order's hybrid-- a Bianchi Boardwalk mixte that is the same year, color, and graphics as my Bianchi Project 7-- is currently being serviced, to be followed by my matching Project 7. Then I start on one of her Fuji mixtes, and one of my other bikes....on down the line, until they're all built and road-ready.

So, without further ado....

Randonneurs: 2, one diamond frame, one mixte (his & hers)
Porteurs: 2, one diamond frame, one mixte (his & hers)
Tourers: 2 diamond frame (his & hers)
29er: 1 (his)
Hybrid: 1 mixte (hers)
Tourer/commuter: 1
Winter commuter: 1
City bike: 1 mixte
Sport tourers: 1 diamond frame, 1 mixte (his & hers)
Fixie bait: 1
Mountain bike: 1
