Deore XT b-screw oddity, once more...

Greetings!

My brand new bike has a Deore XT (2008) rear derailleur, and after I did the first 160KM I had to re-adjust brakes and shifting. Everything OK so far, but:

The space between the upper pulley and the cluster is only OK if I unscrew the b-screw completely (loosen it to the point where it hardly falls out), so my initial thought was that the spring in the derailleur mount is too weak, but itīs brand new.. so could that be an issue of chain length?
I know how to adjust the b-screw, but I think it's really odd that the screw is all the way out, some thing's terribly wrong here....

The chain length should also be OK: smallest sprocket (rear) to biggest (front) moves the upper and lower pulleys exactly 90° to the ground as it should be, or am I wrong?

Thank you very much in advance,

Stefan

PS: KTM 6061 alu frame (offroad), 9-speed cassette with XT rear, Deore front hub...
