I hope more information on the cause of the incident will be released. Was motorist speed or inattention a factor? Years ago I recall some 4-lane Canadian roads being restriped to create a 10-foot-wide inner lane and a 14-foot-wide outer lane, to try to make things a bit safer for bicyclists, although many of us would argue that a 14-foot-wide outer lane is still a bit too narrow for safe side-by-side sharing. Were there any other complicating factors, such as terrain or road curvature, or perhaps the rising or setting sun?
