Hey Guys and Gals,
This previous weekend I did a double Century for the MS Society. I raised over $2,250 and had a lot of fun. Anyways here is a little summary of the ride. It was from Maumee, OH to Port Clinton, OH.
Day 1 Saturday:
Left at 7am, the wind was at my back so I was able to keep about 21-22mph pretty easily with a HR of around 150. There were over 1200 riders, so it was nice to always have someone to pass! I did about 50 miles solo because of the wind helping me. It was a supported century and they had arrows on the road telling you where to go. Problem I ran into was that there were green arrows for the century route and orange arrows for the 75 mile route. I accidentally took the 75 mile route. The century route had another 25 miles in the beginning I missed.
The wind started kicking up when I was about 20 miles from Port Clinton, OH. I started chatting it up with a guy named George and we rotated pulling. He was another person that messed up the routes. So he asked do you want to make up the 25 miles. I said yep, or people are gunna be pissed off. So we went backwards on the course 12.5 miles. It was funny because people at the rest stop were screaming "your going the wrong way!!". Anyways those extra 25 miles were really hard. The wind was gusting at like 15-20mph right at us and I was getting tired. I made it though and arrived in port Clinton high school at 1:45pm. I was drinking out of my camelbak about every 7 minutes and had to refill it like 3 times. I pry went through over 7 liters of water. Also ate a lot of gels, clif shots, fig newtons, cytomax.
Ride stats for day 1:
Distance: 103.5
AVS: 18.1MPH
AVC: 82
MS: 31.3
MC: 125
Time on Bike: 5h 42M
Calories burnt: 4,772
Av HR: 151.3
Max HR: 178
At the Port Clinton HS they had a massage tent setup, so I took advantage of that. Then ate olive garden they had catered, took a nap, and went out to dinner to my mom. Then went to bed and repeated it all over again.
Day 2 Sunday:
I was on the route at 7:20am and was able to find the century route pretty easily. The wind was in my face hard the whole time. So I was only going about 15mph. After the 1st hour I took a break and ate a gel. I saw a group coming up and asked if they minded me joining. They did not, and they actually were from my home town. They only wanted to keep a speed of about 18mph so it was nice. After I got warmed up, I started pulling a ton. We stopped for lunch at 57 miles and had subway. We stopped at other rest stops too. We were leaving Pemberville, oh and I saw a red vette, it was my dad. He found me on the path and we all waved hi to him. The group was a really nice group. The wind didnt stop that day. When we started getting to familiar territory I was pulling and stepped up the pace with another guy. We started going about 23mph and the rest of the group was getting dropped so we had to slow down to 20. We ended up getting back to Maumee at 2pm and I thanked the group. They invited me out to some of their group rides.
I headed to the massage tent and then ate again. Went home, took a nap. Sister took me out to outback. Then had a 2 hour massage the next day Monday. Had the day off.
Overall it was a lot of fun! I will do it again.
Second day Stats:
