Hey all, thanks for the replies.

I tried taking some close up pics with my camera but they just came out blurry.

I'm gonna give the hair dryer another go tomorrow. Maybe i scraped too hard when i got to a shiny black.

And if that doesn't work i'll try d.i.y! Would the matt finish act as a primer? or would i need to take it right down to the metal and start again?
