That's true, but on the other hand, with the large number of skinny white hipsters moving to Japan and racing Keirin these days, it sort of makes sense to go fully-NJS the first time so you don't need to re-buy any components down the road.
haha! I actually think it is awesome how elitist the Keirin series is in Japan. There has never been a non Japanese champion in any of the classes in the history of Keirin. Ben Day and Curt Harnett among others found out it didn't matter how fit you were there, if you were foreign you were getting teamed up on. I think they only allow two foreigners into keirin school per season.
