I'm looking to purchase my first set of panniers. Price is a consideration. However, I'd like to purchase quality gear which will last a while and can be made to keep my gear dry. I really like the idea of Ortlieb's. However, due to price I am considering purchasing a pair of Lone Peak P-099 Sundance Panniers for now. My ideas was to use the Lone Peak P-099s to commute and on short tours as rear panniers. Then in the future, perhaps I'd use the Lone Peaks in the front and buy Ortlieb Back Roller CLASSIC Panniers for the back.

Can the Lone Peaks really be used well for either front or rear? What's the difference in front and rear? Any thoughts on my plan?
