Folks,

I am riding an entry level Trek Pilot with the stock Alex 32 spoke rims and elcheapo no name hubs. They have 5960 miles on them and have been good. The hubs are worn and lumpy. I can't adjust them smooth anymore. I took them to the LBS to see if they knew any tricks, but said they are just worn out. I weigh 245 pounds so I don't want a super light wheel, but the cheap ones seem to hold up OK. I read about Velocity deep Vs and I don't understand why people recommend putting so many spokes in them. I thought the bigger X section adds rigidity so you could use fewer spokes. What is the best value out there right now? What do you think about spoke count for my size? Deep Vs or not?
