In a nutshell.
- You need the detailed street maps. The base map that comes with it is worthless for directions.
- You need to tell it to take you someplace: "mode", Where To, Find Places.

Make sure you have it set to bike mode in the Settings, Routing screen or it may try and take you on a highway.
