Its association with Walmart alone is enough reason for *me* not to buy it.

If you want to ride a bike from Walmart, go ahead, I really don't care. I can tell you that a bike that costs 5 times as much will be nicer, but that should be pretty obvious, really. Wether or not it's worth the money to you is a personal decision.
