STOCK SADDLE ALWAYS SUCK.

In fact, most saddles will suck. You just need to keep trying until you get it right. A good lbs will let you trade in saddles after taking them on a long ride. Specialized dealers also have a butt measuring device. This measures your sitbones, not your wide american fat laden cheeks. I have a big butt for a guy, but I have narrow sit bones which I never knew. I got a specialized toupe gel seat and it's terrific compared to what came on my Felt.

The other thing you could get is an adjustable stem. This will allow you to raise or lower the handlebars until you figure out which angle stem is best, at which point you can go buy a regular stem with the same angle and you can choose shorter or longer as well.

If none of that sounds appealing, then you are probably right... a road bike is not for you. Just like a road bike is not for a heck of a lot of the cycling population, but guess what... they get suckered into the hoopla by the lbs employees and media telling them this is what they should have.
