If you can get steel chainrings that fit, I would pick the steel hands-down. Aluminum chainrings are probably the fastest wear item on the bike.

I remember the first time I worked on a bike with Biorings. I hadn't experienced them previously and spent hours trying to "fix" them. They had a strange illusion making them look bent when viewed from the top and rotated.
