Ugh, people need to stop listening to bull**** remedies for shin splints.
Rest and Ice AFTER activity
Running backwards/Heel walks for strengthening/conditioning
Stretch w/ resistance bands for PT
Icing a muscular injury is almost NEVER a bad thing
